Mirny, the diamond capital of Russia, is a significant town in its district. Despite its small size, the city takes pride in its neat and well maintained infrastructure. Thanks to its size, the distances between the town’s main business and cultural centers are quite small and can be measured in steps rather than kilometers. The large number of sports and health facilities are impressive and the town has its own theater. There are more than a few monuments to the first diamond miners and discoverers of diamond deposits, and also to other contributors to the development of the diamond region. There are a few museums in the city: the local history museum, the historical mining museum of AK Alrosa, and a diamond museum.
Mirny is located in the most northerly temperate belt of the Northern Hemisphere. It has an extreme continental climate. Winters are very cold and summers are quite warm, but very short. The average temperature is -6.0 C°.
For places for leisure and recreation we recommend the “Zarnitsa” restaurant, Cafe "Pizzeria" and the “Coffee-House” coffee shop in our hotel. We also recommend that you visit one the town’s fitness clubs or swimming pools. If possible, you should definitely visit the “Mir” open-pit mine, a monumental spectacle.
