Arkhangelsk (Novokholmory until 1613) is the administrative center of the Arkhangelsk region and the capital of Pomorya. The town has a rare atmosphere of comfort and tranquility. We consider it to be a uniquely and incomparably romantic place with a levy extending for 35 km along the city’s river banks. The city carefully protects its history, striving to preserve it for many generations. This becomes evident as soon as you take a walk along the bank of the North Dvina River on which the hotel is located. You will see the walls of the Michael the Archangel Cathedral, the wide city beaches, and the buildings of the sea port (depicted on the 500 ruble note). If you have enough time, you should definitely visit Little Karelia, a village comprised of traditional, old wooden buildings.
The city has a sub-arctic maritime climate with long winters and short cool summers influenced by a combination of northern seas, the flow of air masses coming in from the Atlantic, and very little radiation from the sun. The average temperature is +4.8 C°.
For relaxation and recreation we recommend our hotel restaurant “Pur-Navolok, considered the city’s most prestigious place for dining, which features cuisine from the Russian north. We can also suggest the restaurant in the tourist complex “Little Karelia.” For theater the selection is not large, but we can recommend the M.V Lomonsov Dramatic Theater. It is also well worth making a trip to Archangelsk’s local history museum where you will be met with a myriad of interesting impressions.
